March 2009 Singapore. SBM Monaco has awarded Cables International the cables supply contract for the world’s largest turret to be installed in BP’s Skarv FPSO being constructed by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea.
“We are delighted to secure this highly prestigious award which is a reflection of the industry’s confidence in Cables International’s reputation for quality, technical competence and service” commented Brian Sweeny, Director Cables International.
Monaco-based marine engineering group SBM Offshore has been handed a $250 million contract by BP Norway for an internal turret for its Skarv floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
The Skarv production unit will serve the Skarv and Idun fields off Norway.
The Skarv turret will be the largest in the world in terms of its rated mooring loads and will be similar to the “bogie-wheel” units designed for BP’s Schiehallion FPSO and other vessels operating off Brazil.
Delivery of the turret mooring system is scheduled for March 2010.
The Skarv FPSO will be built by Samsung Heavy Industries at its shipyard in South Korea.
