Keppel FELS and PPL Shipyards Award 4 Jack-up Cable Supply Contracts to Cables International Print

May 2009  Singapore. Separately KFELS and PPL Shipyards have each awarded 2 Jack-up cable supply contracts to Cables International. In contracts negotiated independently with each shipyard, Cables International is providing full cables management support during the fabrication of the 4 vessels. These awards represent a major achievement during the present global economic slowdown.

“The recent awards of 4 vessels from 2 major Singapore shipyards in one month is a true reflection of the confidence the market has in Cables International to deliver” commented Peter Ong, Managing Director of Cables International.

Seadrill has entered into agreements with KFELS Shipyard in Singapore for the construction of in two jack-up new-builds with delivery in 2010.
The two units to be built at KFELS will be based on the KFELS Mod V B design. The rated water depth is 400ft and drilling depth is 30,000ft. Deliveries are scheduled in June and November 2010 and the total contract price for the two units is approximately US$420 million. These jack-ups will be the fifth and sixth jack-up orders that Seadrill has placed with KFELS. The previous units have all been delivered on time and budget and are all in operation for various oil companies.

PPL Shipyard, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine has secured a contract from repeat customer, Egyptian Drilling Company (EDC) to build a jack-up rig at a contract value of US$220 million.  Scheduled for delivery in mid-2010, this latest jack-up rig order is the second consecutive newbuild jack-up rig that EDC has placed with PPL Shipyard.
